I first hired Michael of HM-Pro to do a roof repair project back in the spring of 2025 and was highly satisfied with the quality of his work. It wasn't cheap, but it was a good value, because I know I won't have to fix this roof again. Michael's very business-like and professional. When he's on a job, he doesn't waste time yakking on the phone or driving around town looking for parts: he has everything ready to go when he arrives.
When the roof leak was fixed, I decided to hire Michael for a much larger project that involved turning my attic into storage. He did all phases of this project, with the exception of replacing my old insulation and doing some drywall patches, which he subcontracted to capable people.
Besides the insulation, the attic conversion project involved putting a floor of OSB boards above the ceiling joists, wiring the attic space for light, installing soffit vents for air circulation, insulating the underside of the roof to keep it cool in the summer sun, installing a roof vent fan, and installing a folding attic ladder in the ceiling for easier access to this space.
The project had two unforeseen snags. The first happened because there was structural damage to a ceiling beam that was caused by the previous owner when he modified a load-bearing wall underneath. Michael fixed this issue, saving me untold thousands of dollars in potential damage down the road.
The second unforeseen snag was the attic ladder, which had to be re-engineered to fit into my attic access opening, since the opening was a non-standard size and location.
Michael dealt with both these issues, and now, at the end of the project, I have an additional 1,000+ square feet of climate-controlled storage space in my home. Again, this work was not cheap, but the project will pay for itself in saved storage rental costs in a matter of a few years, and I have confidence in the quality of Michael's work. He's getting first crack at ALL my handyman work from now on.
